Tinted Glass

What is tinted glass?

Tinted glass or toned glass is a specialised type of glass used to control the UV exposure in your home. It is produced by adding colouring additives to normal annealed glass during the glass manufacturing process.

The amount of UV that is blocked is dependent on the type of tinting used in the glass. The reduction of UV rays can significantly reduce the amount of fading seen in carpets and furniture inside your home.

A type of tinted glass called Supertoned glass (also known as supertinted glass) uses an even heavier type of pigmentation on the glass to provide a greater amount of solar heat control. This type of glass is great for reducing energy costs whilst still providing adequate lighting into your home.

We suggest using tinted glass in your windows in warmer climates (such as Brisbane), as it significantly reduces the sun's heat. this means you spend less on cooling bills during summer. However, it also means that during winter months, your home will not be as naturally warm, and you may need to spend more on cooling bills during these cold months.

The most common shades of tinted glass are:

  • Black tinted glass
  • Green tinted glass
  • Bronze tinted glass
  • Blue tinted glass
  • Grey tinted glass
