How to care for your Aluminium Sliding Doors
Caring for your JRC sliding door is easy. A small amount of care and maintenance each year can make your outdoor glass doors last virtually for decades. Follow the quick and easy steps below to ensure your door operates, functions, and looks great for years.
- 1.
Clean the glass
Wipe down the glass with window cleaner, newspaper, and a cloth. This will stop the build up of grime in the surrounding frame and tracks.
- 2.
Wipe down door frame
Lightly dust the door frame then gently wash it with warm soapy water. This will prevent weathering damage on the outer frame seal.
- 3.
Clean the tracks
This we recommend doing monthly. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust & debris. A warm soapy solution will wipe away any grime. Take an old toothbrush to clean the grooves in the track and remove any dirt.
- 4.
Replace old Seals
Noticed your door isn't airtight? Your door seal can become old and leak air. Replacing your door seal is quite easy and will make your door airtight again.
- 5.
Replace worn out rollers
If your rollers are damaged, it will prevent the door from opening and closing properly. Replacing the worn-out rollers every few years will make it function as good as new.
- 6.
Check door panel alignment
Slamming of your sliding door can cause misalignment. You can fix this by adjusting the roller screws or removing the door and realigning it on the top track and bottom track.

Why did my glass door suddenly shatter?
Glass doors spontaneous breakages are extremely rare, however it is possible. If this occurred to you, it is likely because of one of two reasons.
The first is called 'Thermal Shock'. This happens when there are drastic temperature differences across the surface of the door glass pane. It causes the glass to expand and contract across different areas, forcing a breakage. Again, this is extremely rare but possible.
The other reason is due to 'Nicked Sulphide Inclusions'. This happens during glass production, when small nickel sulphide stones form within the glass. It's a random but extremely rare occurrence during the glass manufacturing process with no specific cause. These stones expand in the glass over time, causing a breakage.
These are extremely rare cases and should not be a concern at all. JRC's use of high-quality toughened glass in our external sliding doors significantly lowers the chances of these breakages occurring.
